Penalties for Traveling to Meet a Minor

In Florida the crime of Traveling to Meet a Minor for sexual purposes if a felony that is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. In addition to any jail or prison you will also have to register as a sexual offender if you are convicted of this charge. This charge will put someone in a mandatory prison range even if this is your first criminal offense ever.

With all this said there are various ways to attack these cases by filing motions to dismiss for entrapment and other due process violations. Other options are to mitigate the penalties by working with your attorney and setting up ways to resolve the case and attempt to stay out of jail or prison and get a term of probation by the Judge. The only way to get probation in a case like this is to get either the State Attorney to agree which is unlikely or get the Judge to find a legal reason that you should not go to prison.

I have been very successful in arguing legal reasons for probationary sanctions in front of Judges and keeping my clients out of jail or prison on these cases. Remember every case is different but there are steps you can take prior to going to court to help your chances of a successful outcome.
