Some Orlando area residents may think that law enforcement cannot arrest them if they have not actually done something wrong. While in some cases this is true, other times, individuals face serious consequences for threats of certain actions. A Sanford man is currently facing that reality.
Police officers arrested the man shortly after he made threats about blowing up an area hospital and killing police officers. The threat, which was apparently the result of the hospital emergency room failing to provide him treatment, was made public on Facebook. According to the post he was upset that the hospital would not treat him because he did not have insurance.
Law enforcement became aware of the threats after someone who saw the messages on Facebook contracted them.
As a result of the threats the man allegedly made, he was arrested and charged with:
- Intimidation
- Threatening to discharge a destructive device
- Threatening to harm a public servant
As a result of the man’s arrest it is likely that he is working with a lawyer to craft a defense. Though he apparently has not made good on any of the Facebook threats attributed to him, law enforcement is nonetheless taking the threats he allegedly made seriously. If convicted, he could face serious consequences.
A criminal defense lawyer may be able to reduce the charges against the man or have them dismissed altogether.
