Inappropriate Behavior or a Sex Crime?

When you are a high school teacher you are dealing with impressional students day in, day out. There are some great days, like when you help a student achieve academic success. But there can be days that will make you want to bury your head under the covers and never come out.

A teacher in Lake County, FL, is experiencing the latter.

This 45 year-old high school teacher is being accused of having sexual relations with one of his female students. The police investigation began months ago when his car was pulled over at 1:45am. The cops stopped him for a routine traffic violation, but ended up learning a whole lot more about him than just his driving blunder.

In the passenger seat of his vehicle was a teenage girl, who was later discovered to be one of his students. The two had been "dating" for some time.

After a lengthy investigation, with help from school officials, he was arrested on charges of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

What this charge means is that an individual who is 24 years-old or more cannot engage in sexual activity with a person who is 16 or 17 years old, even if it is considered "consensual".

When an investigation is ongoing or an arrest has been made, you have to remember that every text message, email, or any other method of contact between the two people involved is going to come out.

Our law firm sees cases like this all the time. Is there more to it than what we read in the paper? An attorney must read in-between the lines in order to get to the truth.

Your career and potential earnings could be on on the line when you are charged with a sex crime.
