Odd Place To Hide Weapons

On Behalf of | May 9, 2014 | Criminal Law

You have the right to keep and bear arms but this is crazy.

Over in Volusia County, FL, authorities are investigating a bizarre discovery. Deputies found a wooden coffin filled with an arsenal of weapons including knives, nunchucks, a crossbow and many more weapons of destruction.

The coffin was discovered by a Florida Fish and Wildlife officer yesterday afternoon in a heavily wooded area. The officer notified the Sheriff’s Office, and a deputy arrived to find the coffin lying near the tree line. There were no signs of damage to the coffin. You usually expect to find a dead body inside and not some weapons that could cause someone to die. The deputy opened the coffin to find a total of 46 weapons, but have no clue as to who is responsible.

The state of Florida is well known for being tough when it comes to weapons-related charges. Possession of a stolen firearms is a law that combines illegal possession of a firearm with possession of stolen property, both of which can lead to felony charges. A suspect found to possess stolen firearms can be charged with a third-degree felony at a minimum, and perhaps even a second or first-degree felony, depending on certain facts.
