When you’re a teen, what seems like harmless fun can have a lasting impact on your future. Some teens in New Jersey just learned this valuable lesson.
More than 60 high school seniors were arrested after a late night prank that had the teens spraying silly string on floors, taping hot dogs to lockers, flipping desks, urinating in the hallways and smearing Vaseline on doors around the school.
Kids will be kids? Not according to the authorities. Police officers, prosecutors and judges won’t show misbehaving teens much mercy. It’s essential that their defense attorneys have a successful history in handling juvenile cases.
At around 2 a.m. officers discovered the vandalism after they responded to a burglary alarm coming from inside the school. When police arrived, several students ran from the building, while others hid inside. A total of 63 high school seniors were arrested. Not all of them were minors. 24 were charged as adults. The 39 juveniles were released to their parents.
They were all charged with burglary and criminal mischief. More punishment could come from the school district, but for right now these 63 students are more concerned with their legal problems.
For most of these youngsters, this is their first brush with the law. While jail time might be pushing it, they are sure to get a heavy dose of community service and maybe even probation. This isn’t something that will just magically disappear. Remember that many of these students will be attending college very soon.
