Board Certified Criminal Trial Attorney
Melissa Vickers has twenty-one years experience as a Criminal Defense Attorney and is Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University with her law degree in 1998 and received her BA from the University of South Florida in Speech Communications and Criminology in 1995.
After graduating from law school, Ms. Vickers worked as an Assistant Public Defender in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit in Ft. Lauderdale. She moved to Orlando in 2001 and began working as an Asistant Public Defender for the Ninth Judicial Circuit. She was promoted throughout her career and was most recently the Chief Asistant Public Defender at that office. She wrote numerous office manuals and was responsible for several trainings within that office. Ms. Vickers had tried cases from misdemeanors, domestic violence, juvenile and felonies including sexual battery and murder. Ms. Vickers is Board Certified in Criminal Trial Law which is the highest level of expertise recognized by the Florida Bar in her practice area.
Melissa is also very active in the legal and local community. She is a past President and current Board Member of the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, is a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense lawyers, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, League of Women Voters, Florida Bar Grievance Committee, Central Florida Association of Women Lawyers, Orange County Bar Association and has been involved in her neighborhood advocating for her community. In 2019, Ms. Vickers was awarded the Joe DuRocher Foot Soldier of the Constitution Award by the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, which is the highest honor awarded to an attorney by the organization.
Ms. Vickers was honored to practice as an attorney at Morgan & Morgan PA in the area of Premises Liability. She realized that her true passion was representing people accused of crimes and joined the Law Office of Corey I. Cohen & Associates in July 2020.
Melissa comes from a family with deep roots in the law. Her maternal grandfather was a Judge, her father was a Criminal Defense Attorney, her brother is an Attorney in Orlando and her uncle is currently a Family Court Judge in Duval County. She currently lives in Winter Park with her husband and twin boys.
