Yes, you can go to jail for being stupid

On Behalf of | Apr 28, 2014 | Federal Crimes

Don’t assume that you can get away with impersonating law enforcement, because you will make an ass out of you and…well, just you.

A man who was trying to make a name for himself in the downtown Orlando club scene was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for posing as a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agent by wearing a “DEA” insignia, a badge and carrying a firearm. He went to night clubs and bars and talked about how he was on his way to a “take-down”.

The judge who sentenced him called the man’s behavior “stupid”. That might be the understatement of the year.

The man also posted several pictures of himself pretending to be a DEA agent. How can a defense attorney deal with a client and case as absurd as this?

This idiot’s lawyer had to deal with not only his client being accused of impersonating a federal agent, but also illegal weapons. Federal charges are investigated to the fullest and usually the sentence isn’t too lenient.

Which makes you wonder…did they go easy on him? The moral of this story is…yes, you can go to jail for being stupid.
