Charges awaiting carjackers

When you're driving around town you're only worried about the other cars on the road. The last thing on your mind is the thought of being dragged out of your vehicle. Yet "carjackings" continue to be a frightful everyday possibility.

This morning in Orlando a man is in the hospital after being shot during a violent carjacking. This happened a little after 5 am at an apartment complex. The victim told deputies he was leaving his apartment when two or three suspects attacked him and forced him into his car. During the scuffle he was shot and then pushed out of his own car only a few blocks later. The suspects then sped off, leaving the victim wounded on the street. The good news from this story is that the victim is in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

Whatever led these men to carjack him is unknown. But when they are caught they are looking at serious charges and will need a defense attorney with enough experience in a case like this.

An attorney will need to find out which one of the men was the true "ring leader" of the group. Maybe the client just "went along", not knowing the consequences. Did any of the men personally know the victim? In the process of asking questions such as these, an attorney can build a client's defense and discover the best way to proceed in order to protect their client's freedom.

The crime of Carjacking is classified as a First Degree Felony. If a person is convicted of carjacking, they are looking at a minimum prison sentence of 21 months in jail. Depending on the circumstances, that person could receive up to 30 years in person, not to mention years and years of probation, as well as up to $10,000 in fines.

This is no joyride.
