Drug Busts Uncover New Crimes

On Behalf of | May 10, 2014 | Drug Crimes

Al Capone, one of our nation’s most infamous criminals, was busted for tax evasion. After all the crimes he got away with, one tiny crime got him busted. It happens more often than you think.

Not too long ago in Winter Park, FL, a group of men were arrested for one crime which later led to more undiscovered legal issues. Failing to pay for child support turned into a major drug bust. This child support investigation by four Orange County police departments resulted in major drug arrests. Arrested on child support charges was nothing compared to being arrested for cocaine and marijuana possession.

Many of the men arrested had a very detailed history with law enforcement. One was recently released from prison after serving time for attempted burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He also had a previous conviction for possession of a controlled substance. Another man was sentenced to 15 months in prison in 2002 for forgery and for selling cocaine within 1,000 feet of a church.

They will need a defense attorney who knows the criminal justice system from the inside out. A lawyer who can use that knowledge to build a strong defense for them. Because of their criminal past, a defense lawyer will have their work cut out for them when it comes to minimizing the penalties for a potential drug charge conviction.
