SeaWorld worker charged with Grand Theft

On Behalf of | May 15, 2014 | Grand Theft

When you are out at one of Orlando’s many beautiful theme parks, the last thing on your mind is being robbed. Especially by one of park’s employees.

A SeaWorld worker was arrested today after being accused of stealing from a guest at the park. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested the worker after they caught her going through bags left with strollers outside the Shamu Stadium area. When SeaWorld staff questioned her, she said she didn’t take anything, but then later admitted to stealing and using a guest’s credit cards. The victim reported to the sheriff’s office that her purse was taken out of a blue bag while she was feeding the sting rays. Evidence supported her claim.

SeaWorld said it was working closely with investigators, but would not comment further on the investigation. In other words, pretty sure she lost her job. She was charged with grand theft.

Since it is unknown how much she stole, the suspect could be looking at three different types of grand theft charges. More than likely its 3rd Degree Grand Theft. That means she stole property valued between $300 and $19,999. The penalty for a 3rd degree felony is a maximum of 5 years in jail and a $5,000 fine. Her defense attorney will have their work cut out for them, but if she has a clean criminal record up until now and is perhaps diagnosed with some form of kleptomania, she could easily avoid jail time. Although, probation and heavy fines are sure to be on the horizon.
