Downtown altercation leads to violence

On Behalf of | Jun 18, 2014 | Criminal Law

When citizens of Orlando head out to downtown for the night they usually just want to drink a little, eat some good food, unwind with some close friends, etc. Far too often, crimes are committed by the end of what was supposed to be a fun night out.

Such is the case with a current crime that the Orlando police are investigating. A shooting that sent a woman and man to the hospital. The shooting took place around 2:40 a.m. this morning, in a parking lot ironically located near police headquarters. Witnesses say they saw two men arguing loudly and then heard two gunshots. The woman was shot in the leg and the man was also wounded, but both victims are expected to be survive. Police believe the victims may have been simply bystanders and not even involved in the altercation. Authorities are trying to locate the shooters and already have some ideas where to find them.

When the shooters are found, they better have excellent legal representation. They could be looking at an attempted murder charge. Prosecutors would need to prove that they intended to kill, and right now with all the eyewitnesses have seen, it doesn’t prove that yet. Although an argument combined with a gun is never a good sign, more facts will have to come out. That’s why it would be in the best interest of the alleged shooters to turn themselves in, hire a defense attorney and begin working on the case.

If they have a past criminal history, or illegally obtained the firearm that was used, then their future lawyer will have their work cut out for them.
