First Degree Murder Charge for killing grandma

Over in Sumter County, FL, a man was arrested and charged with first degree murder for the death of his grandmother. This took place Saturday when deputies were called to the home 82-year-old grandmother. They found her dead in a bedroom with a towel covering her and bandages on her chest. After his arrest, deputies say that the grandson admitted to entering his grandmother’s bedroom stabbing her in the chest with a knife. During the search at the home, deputies discovered a large broken kitchen knife in a trash can. He admitted to killing her on Wednesday night, leaving her dead body

He is being held without bond and this shocking crime could send him to jail for the rest of his life. In Florida, just like in many other states, first degree murder is defined as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated. In this case it means that he was committed to killing his grandma. His defense team will have their work cut out for them judging from his admission and the evidence that was found. A First Degree murder charge is designated a Capital Offense and there are only two possible sentences for him. If he pleads guilty or is found guilty, he is looking at life in prison without the possibility of parole. That is his best case scenario. Worst case? Since Florida has the death penalty, he can be sentenced to death.

I guess we shouldn’t be shocked when we hear about crimes like this, but it still strikes a nerve when someone is charged with killing a family member.
