An ongoing investigation into the death of a 3 year-old girl, whose mother said was killed by a hit-and-run driver, is about to take an odd legal turn.
An Orange County, FL, judge has ruled that the mother’s other child, a 2 year-old boy, will remain in custody of the Department of Children and Families “out of concerns for the boy’s well-being.” The facts don’t appear to be on the mother’s side.
The parking lot of the family’s apartment complex is where this all went down. The mother called 911 while she was driving the child to the hospital, when she was told to pull over and wait for an ambulance. After the mother pulled over her car, the child was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died.
At the hearing, the doctor who saw the girl stated that she was “malnourished” and had bruises all over her body prior to the hit and run incident. The girl’s younger brother also had bruises and the DCF and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the 3-year-old girl’s death, as well as the boys bruises.
No charges have been filed against the mother… yet, but she will certainly need a defense attorney ASAP. There isn’t even word yet about what car may have killed the child. It would not be a surprise if she is arrested soon and charged with child abuse after the information about malnourishment and bruises on the children have surfaced. While the investigation is ongoing, it might also be revealed that the mother has a history of involvement with the Department of Children and Families.
