FL cracking down on DUIs

On Behalf of | Aug 16, 2014 | DUI

You don’t have to watch the news or commercials, or even see drivers being pulled over to understand what is going on. It’s common knowledge that law enforcement is always cracking down on drunk drivers. But with summer down to its final weeks and Labor Day just around the corner, the FHP (Florida Highway Patrol) is focusing its attention on drunk drivers for the next two weeks. It’s all part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign that will run through on September 1 (Labor Day).

How does this differ from their usual DUI hunt? FHP intends to have all uniformed personnel patrolling all interstates and other major state roads during this time, leading up to the four-day Labor Day holiday weekend. If you are one of those people who think a DUI charge will never happen to you, you need to rethink your position. Plenty of drivers have had (what they believe to be) hardly anything alcoholic to drink right before sitting in front of the wheel. Before they know it, they are stopped and facing life-altering consequences.

You could lose your driver’s license, as well as be dealt large fines, and worst of all…end up in jail. Your defense attorney can guide you through the legal process, explain your rights and start building a defense that can lead to a favorable outcome. It’s quite possible that the officers who arrested you for DUI didn’t act appropriately during the traffic stop. And it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the actual breathalyzer used could have malfunctioned. Just because you have been pulled over, doesn’t mean you should forget about your legal rights.
