Why leaving the scene of an accident is an awful idea

Parking lots seem to be magnets for car accidents. You are backing out of your parking spot, a second of not paying attention and then...BAM!

Too many of us panic and speed off without ever stopping to see if the car we hit has serious damage. You'd be surprised at how many drivers think this isn't a serious crime. But with video cameras everywhere, you will eventually get caught if you leave the scene of an accident.

When you leave the scene of an accident, no matter how minor you believe it to be, law enforcement will be on the scene as soon as you disappear. The police will conduct a thorough investigation which may include interviewing eyewitnesses and reviewing any available surveillance footage from the area of the accident. They can also conduct tests on the damaged vehicle's paint to closer pinpoint what happened. Once they have an idea of who you are and what kind of vehicle you drive, they will come to your home or workplace to confront you about the accident. And if you think you can running away and hiding out is the answer, they will issue an arrest warrant and you will be pursued by every police agency in the country.

That does sound frightening, but you have options too. Don't make a bad situation even worse by not hiring an attorney. If you don't act quickly in consulting a defense lawyer, it could greatly limit the strength of your potential defense strategy. As stated above, law enforcement is very prepared when it comes to investigating "leaving the scene of an accident". While they are devoted to investigating this "hit and run", you need to be one step ahead of them.

There are many defense strategies that a defense attorney can use. From poor weather to serious trauma, there are plenty of reasons why some drivers hit and then flee the scene. The only thing worse than leaving the scene, is not being prepared legally for the aftermath.
