Excuse That Never Work When Caught Speeding

On Behalf of | Nov 19, 2014 | Speeding Tickets

You know you were going over the speed limit, but that doesn’t stop you from finding an excuse for your speeding. When an officer pulls you over, it can be a frightening experience. All you need to do is stay calm and be honest. Try not to flood the officer with excuse after excuse.

Here are some excuses that never fly:

– “I was going with the flow of traffic.”

– “I didn’t know what the speed limit was.”

– “I was trying to pass a truck.”

– “Are you sure your radar gun is working correctly.”

– “I had to go to the bathroom.”

– “I wasn’t paying attention.”

– “My music was on so loud I didn’t even realize how fast I was going.”

– “I’m late for an important meeting.”

Let’s face it. None of these are ever going to work. So instead of worrying about excuses, worry about how you don’t want this speeding ticket to lead points on your license. Speeding violations add points to your driving record. You can also expect your insurance rates climb. If you have multiple violations you could eventually lose your driver’s license and if you are a commercial driver the loss of your license could mean the loss of your job.

Speeding tickets are just one of life’s little downers. No matter how safe and skilled a driver you are, the reality is that most of us at one time or another will end up with a speeding ticket. And while you might want to come up with excuse after excuse for that one overzealous cop who pulled you over, your best bet is to plan for the aftermath. With proper legal help, you can fight the violation. Tell your lawyer the reason why you may have been speeding…not the officer.
