DUI at the strangest time

On Behalf of | Feb 3, 2015 | DUI

You always have to be on the lookout for DUI checkpoints. Having “just a few drinks”, and getting behind the wheel of your vehicle can still leave you vulnerable towards a DUI arrest or even an accident. But here’s a DUI story, involving an odd vehicle, you won’t hear very often.

At a girls’ high school hockey game, the driver of the ice resurfacer, AKA a “Zamboni”, was allegedly weaving around the ice erratically, slamming up against the boards. The ice driver was arrested for a suspected DUI, and then released on bail after he was charged. Complicating matters even more for this North Dakota man is that he was arrested and convicted of another DUI charge back in December. But don’t worry, the ice involved in that incident was only on the road. He ended up pleading guilty to that charge and was sentenced to 20 hours of community service.

He worked at that high school for over six years, but with two DUI charges in less than three months, he has now lost his job. This could be a very interesting case for an attorney. You have to wonder how badly he was driving the Zamboni for him to be arrested, and if there is any video evidence. With it being a high school game, you can bet some parents were videotaping the game and probably got some good angles of his alleged reckless driving. Now that we live in the days of Vine and Instagram and Snapchat, you can bet some footage will come out. The only question is…will the video evidence harm his potential defense?
