3 dangers of using and abusing heroin

On Behalf of | Jul 16, 2018 | Uncategorized

There are many reasons that people use drugs, and two of the most common culprits are the opioid epidemic and addiction. Both of these factors have contributed to a resurgence in the popularity of heroin use—but this is one of the most dangerous drugs.

Why exactly is heroin so dangerous, and what can happen from using it? There are a few answers to these questions, but ultimately, the following three are the primary reasons you should be concerned if you or somebody you love has become involved in heroin. Do not underestimate the destructive power of this or any other drug.

1. Physical detriments

The impact drugs have on a person’s health and wellness is well-documented. The substance itself can lead to such ailments as collapsed veins, kidney disease, deterioration of brain cells and liver disease. There are a number of ways that people ingest heroin, but all of them cause both short- and long-term damage to your body. It is important to seek medical treatment if you are detoxing from heroin.

2. Risk of using needles

In addition to the risk incurred from the substance of heroin itself, there are often additional risks that stem from the method of ingestion. Needles are a common choice, and this can be a highly dangerous process. It is not uncommon for them to be dirty from reuse and spread diseases such as hepatitis and HIV. These diseases are dangerous at best, and in some cases, potentially fatal.

3. Legal consequences

Your health is not the only thing at risk when you use heroin. Your entire future, too, can be jeopardized by the legal consequences you might face as a result of heroin possession. If law enforcement catches you using or merely possessing heroin, you may face misdemeanor or even felony charges. Jail time, fines and a criminal record will result if you receive a conviction.
