Drug Crimes Archives

Meth Lab crackdown

Local authorities here in the Central FL area continue to crackdown on meth labs. But a recent case proves that sometimes the police don't even need to target a meth lab to get the job done.

"Molly" becoming the new drug crime

MDMA, which is a form of Ecstasy also known as "Molly" in the club scene, has become the new drug of the 21st century. It's even caught the attention of the NFL. Just today, the league suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick four games for failing a drug test that showed "Molly" in his system. Scandrick claims that while he was vacationing in Mexico with a girlfriend, she provided him with the substance and slipped it into the cocktail they were drinking.

When Xanax becomes illegal

Xanax is best known as a prescribed pill that doctors give out to patients in order to treat anxiety and panic disorder. But did you know that you can be arrested for having even just one unprescribed Xanax pill on you? Xanax happens to be the most common prescription drug that is often illegally obtained through theft or prescription fraud. The legal ramifications are harsh for illegally possessing pharmaceutical drugs in the state of Florida. Prosecutors and law enforcement have been focusing on taking down prescription drug offenders for years now.

Crack Cocaine Possession

Drug charges can fall under many categories. Delivery, distribution, trafficking, sales. But what about drug possession for crack/cocaine? Did you know that if you travel with drugs across state lines, that it may lead to federal charges? If you are a first time offender, you might qualify for drug court. If you qualify, drug court can be a very good alternative to regular litigation. So that is some positive news. However, drug court is not too simple. If someone is charged with possession of crack/cocaine and enter drug court, they must attend mandatory classes, counseling, and undergo regular drug testing. Drug court can be a nice alternative to being prosecuted for possession of crack/cocaine since the case gets dismissed after the defendant has successfully completed the drug program.

Pain Clinics and Prescription Drugs

Over the past few years, Florida Drug Enforcement has cracked down on prescription drug abuse and the pain clinics who provide illegal drugs. Around four years ago, FL was in the middle of a terrible prescription drug crisis. 90 of the nation's top 100 Oxycodone purchasing doctors and 53 of the nation's top 100 Oxycodone purchasing pharmacies were located in the Sunshine State. In recent years, the number of doctors providing illegal drugs has been reduced by 85% and the number of pharmacies has declined by 64%. In addition, the number of pain clinics has declined from 800 to less than 500 in the state.

Cocaine Possession Defense

In Florida or any state for that matter, if you have been charged with a drug crime involving cocaine you might think that all is lost. Not quite. Of course, there is no denying that the possession of cocaine is a serious felony offense and it is vigorously prosecuted throughout Florida. But "Possession of Cocaine" is a highly defendable charge.

Meth Lab drug charges

An odd, suspicious looking house gets busted for being a "meth lab". I guess we shouldn't be surprised. It's been a growing problem in Florida for some time now. Police are searching very closely for any clues that lead them to discovering a house cooking meth. They're looking for matchbooks with strike plates removed, or collections of discarded striker plates. Discarded vinyl or rubber tubing, to go along with glass jars and containers are a dead giveaway.

Drug Paraphernalia Problems

You could walk into almost any college dorm right now and find "drug paraphernalia". But how is it illegal, even if you are not using it? What if you didn't even know it was in the room? Or if it was a friend's paraphernalia.

Lengthy Investigation Leads To Major Drug Trafficking Bust

Orlando MBI (Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation) have charged 18 people for drug trafficking. This all came about after a lengthy investigation was conducted by the bureau. Officials say four of the suspects have been looked at closely for several months, possibly as early since November of 2013. Central Florida law enforcement agencies worked together for this investigation and successful bust inside Orange County. They have singled out the ring leader of the suspected drug trafficking organization. The suspect has been arrested on felony charges 27 times and four times for misdemeanor crimes. Authorities say many of the suspects charged have violent criminal histories. The "kingpin" is facing 10 charges related to drug trafficking alone, as well as the illegal possession of a firearm.
