Drug Paraphernalia Problems

You could walk into almost any college dorm right now and find "drug paraphernalia". But how is it illegal, even if you are not using it? What if you didn't even know it was in the room? Or if it was a friend's paraphernalia.

Lengthy Investigation Leads To Major Drug Trafficking Bust

Orlando MBI (Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation) have charged 18 people for drug trafficking. This all came about after a lengthy investigation was conducted by the bureau. Officials say four of the suspects have been looked at closely for several months, possibly as early since November of 2013. Central Florida law enforcement agencies worked together for this investigation and successful bust inside Orange County. They have singled out the ring leader of the suspected drug trafficking organization. The suspect has been arrested on felony charges 27 times and four times for misdemeanor crimes. Authorities say many of the suspects charged have violent criminal histories. The "kingpin" is facing 10 charges related to drug trafficking alone, as well as the illegal possession of a firearm.

Jim Irsay's case is unlike many others

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested on March 17 for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He is still facing four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance. He also had $29,000 in cash and bottles of prescription drugs in his vehicle when he was arrested.

Can the Florida legal system learn from Colorado?

When Colorado made marijuana legal for recreational use, some believed that they were hoping up a "pandora's box" full of weed. What's been opened instead are less crimes for possession, prisons with less non-violent criminals and $14 million within the first month of legalization. Which added over $2 million of tax revenue into the state.

Is there a difference between a DUI and a Reckless Driving Charge?

I have had clients ask me if there is any difference between the DUI they were arrested for and an offer to resolve the case with a plea to a reckless driving.  The answer is yes there is a big difference.   For one you wont have a DUI on your driving record and employers and insurance companies will view a reckless driving differently than they would a DUI.   Additionally there is typically no drivers license suspension with a reckless driving and the penalties could be less.

Flight attendant charged with drug crime upon arrival in Orlando

A flight attendant who was working a flight into Orlando recently likely received a surprise she was not prepared for. She was arrested by federal agents for bringing heroin into the country from Columbia. The discovery of the drugs was made by customs officers during a routine screening. According to the criminal complaint, the heroin, which was packaged in such a way to make it appear like chocolate, was supposed to be given to a man residing in Orlando. In exchange for transporting the drugs she would be paid.
