NFL star Ray Rice pleads not guilty

If you don’t think the Ray Rice case can affect you someday, you may not be paying close attention. You never know where a rocky relationship can lead you.

The star running back of the Baltimore Ravens pleaded not guilty to a third-degree charge of aggravated assault and applied for a pretrial intervention program this morning in N.J.

Why did his attorneys advise him to do this? The pretrial intervention program is a diversion program that permits some defendants to avoid formal prosecution. It especially used in the case of first time defendants. Things may be looking up for the running back since prosecutors have offered a plea agreement in which Rice would receive probation without doing any jail time and instead undergo anger management counseling.

For those who may not remember, Rice was arrested and charged with simple assault domestic violence back in February. This was after a physical altercation with his fiancée in an Atlantic City casino.

In a really strange turn, the couple were married one day after Rice was indicted by a grand jury in late March. She is still standing by her man.

If you are ever in this legal predicament, don’t think that you can survive this in the same manner as Ray Rice. He’s more well-known than you, and in all likelihood, he has the financial resources that you don’t.

In the state of FL, there is no guarantee that you will avoid jail time even if this is your first time. In some best cases, you could be looking at least a lengthy probation. That’s why you want the best lawyer by your side.
