Child Abuse Isn’t Always A Clear Cut Case

On Behalf of | Mar 27, 2014 | Child Abuse

Child abuse comes in many forms. Aside from the most common ones involving physical, emotional and sexual, neglect is one type of abuse that we hear on the news all the time.

A mother in Orlando was recently arrested by authorities, who described her home as “horrific”. She and her five children lived in filth. Garbage scattered around the home, some piles as high as ankle deep. The trash needed to be shoveled out and placed into a large city trash can. There were also large amounts of animal waste, that combined with the garbage, made the house “beyond foul smelling” according to law enforcement on the scene.

To make matters worse, all of her children were in poor health. Some had rotten and broken teeth, while all of the children were forced to eat cold expired food out of cans. As you can imagine, the youngsters were dangerously malnourished.

The children, ages 5, 9, 12, 15, 17, have been placed in child protective services. The woman is being held at the Orange County Jail on five counts of child neglect causing bodily harm.

As a defense attorney, what kind of legal help can we provide? The story has such a frightful feel to it that one must separate the details from the task at hand.

In some cases of child neglect, our law firm can provide multiple defenses. Familiar ones include accidental, wrongful accusations and even a parent’s right to discipline their child in the manner they seem fit.

If you have been accused of child abuse and you’re a parent who truly loves their child, we will do whatever it takes legally to right this wrong.
